Florida has had a similar law for a few years, and it helps. Those on this forum who think bikes always belong on the road will disagree, but I think having a 4-foot paved shoulder along side a major state highway makes for a very pleasant way to cycle.

You and other cyclists in the state need to keep an eye on new construction plans. Some planners will try to avoid the law, and it requires vigilance by local cyclists while roads are being planned to make sure they comply with the law.
