I won't lie, those upgrades are really sweet, but your LBS is making too much money off you trying to accomadate your wants....I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but unless you ride all the time, you really might be fine on a straigt hoss.....the componentry of today's bikes is so much improved that your 92 trek's parts might only be as good as a cheaper bike's today...no joke.....when your bike's that old......some parts will surprise you.....Hola back man......
Ive got a buddy that races both XC and road and hes sponsored by the shop I went into. Hes gonna go with me and make sure they arent giving me anythign I dont need to have. He basically said to go with the XT deraillers and big brakes and just ride the thing and replace stuff as it breaks/wears out...
as for mike-a-bike...his story is great but I plan on riding quite a bit harder then that and if the way I race my dirtbikes is any indicator im gonna be beating this thing pretty good and I need her to hold up.
