It's not Vintage, but it certainly deserves some attention as a classic. Those were excellent handling bikes. The only two examples I've seen were owned by an X-Pro mountain biker and a semi-pro rider who designed one of the better known MTB single track courses in the Raleigh area. I had a chance to buy one of their frames last year, but at $300 for just the frame, I passed. I believe he sold the frame since then.
Your right, very nice handling and a big leap for Trek at the time. Stock the bike spec'd out at about 23.5 lbs.
