ANYTHING in excess can cause problems. Proofide is to protect the leather, put it on once then as-needed afterward. If you are a fair-weather-only rider who keeps his bike sheltered when not in use, you probably only need to re-apply once a year. If you are constantly riding in the rain, you may need to apply it after every rainy ride (after the saddle dries). If you leave the bike untouched for years, like your baseball mitt, you should probably apply some proofide prior to using it again.
But hey, go ahead, slather it on for days, nice and thick...then come back here when you want advice how to retension or lace your saddle.
Dude, if you are a Marine, as someone alleged, you are embarrassing an old Gunny here by seeming to be so thick - so let me put it into words I know you'll understand - JUST F'ING DO WHAT I TELL YOU!

I fix airplanes for a living. We have rooms full of manuals that tell us specifically how to fix them. Sometimes the "old Gunny" says "eh, just do it my way"...then bad things tend to happen because the Gunny thought he knew better than the guys who made the airplane. I've had to fire a couple of salty old Gunnys over the years.
But I get what you are saying. I'll take it easy.
