I've never understood why 'Cro-Magnon' is used as a term of disparagement. Perhaps to anglophones the name itself sounds sinister or primitive. Cro-Magnon is just a French dialect place-name.

With all respect and in a spirit only of contributing to the general well-being and knowledge of this community (), perhaps you'll let me quote Wikipedia (the bane of all librarians):
'Finds of spun, dyed, and knotted flax fibers ... shows they made cords for hafting stone tools, weaving baskets, or sewing garments, and suggest that they knew how to make woven clothing ... These early humans used manganese and iron oxides to paint pictures and may have created the first calendar around 15,000 years ago.'
Anyone who wishes to point out that I have strayed well off the topic is more than welcome to do so.
