it's nice to have a reference sitting on the table next to you while you wrench. plus greasy hands and keyboards aren't the best combo.

Avoid the Bicycling Magazine maintenance manual. It's good enough, but not great. From browsing, I wish I would've gone with the Zinn book instead - the diagrams and instructions are a lot clearer.
