In general one would expect a slight speed increase (i.e. less resistance) as the tire is worn down. The weight is reduced and there's a thinner tread so less loss from any rubber squirm in the contact patch area. But for slick or nearly slick road tires that don't have much rubber thickness to start with I'd expect the effects to be extremely small.
