As promised, here are some pictures of the setup and an illustration of the massive heel/half of my foot overlap.







I checked out the mounting hooks and they do slide fore and aft, but only so much. No vertical adjustment is available and the hook assembly is riveted on. I would have to do a good bit of work to move them.

I'm wondering if I move the rack higher up and the bags as far back as possible would work at all. I have the rack in the lowest possible position, so while raising it would bring the bag closer, it would also give some clearance on the bottom side. That and when I move the bags back, I'm not putting the load out past the rear axle.
