6 week lead time is pretty common with manufactured parts. I work in customer service and it is never a happy thing to tell a customer that his badly needed replacment part has a 6 - 8 week lead time.
With the way things are right now, no one wants to keep much inventory, and I can not say I blame them.

i work in manufacturing too. 6 weeks for a small machined, non welded, non assembled part is ridiculous. if 6 weeks is normal, it is time to look at your processes and/or make a capital investment.
we are talking about a lockring for goodness sake.
