Well, insulting or not, it's pretty stupid to assume something. She has no idea what my education consists of, and possibly that of other members she questioned the intelligence of as well. Statistically speaking, my wife has a higher IQ than at least 98% of the people in the world, but she never assumes a person she meets is in that group.

I have noticed that a handful of disciplines in post graduate education seem to include a few units in elitism (hey, they should offer a PhD in road cycling), and that they somehow think that their training in said discipline means they know everything in every other discipline.
