When I initially read using musical tones to gauge spoke tension I paid it little attention... as I think many do. I'm here to tell you... if your ears are halfway decent.. this works.

My build F#.... 306's 14g. IMO a reasonable tool for the low volume wheel builder sans another finished wheel to compare to.
