Many years ago, a friend and I were forced off the road by darkness, so we decided to spend the night in a farmer's field. We didn't ask permission which irked the farmer so he called the county cops to drive us out. However, it was after midnight and we were riding a rural two lane highway in the middle of nowhere with a major drunk driving problem. We thought it would be better to go to jail than ride in that.
The cop could see we had a point and offered to take our bikes in the squad car to a rest stop 7 miles up the road. But the bikes didn't fit. I told him it would be insane/suicidal for us to ride that highway unless he rode behind us with his lights on. His eyes said, "I don't get paid enough to do this shti," but he agreed and drove behind us with everything flashing.
We rode the 7 miles as hard as we could and slept at the rest stop. We woke up a little after 4am and continued onwards since the light was returning and we needed to get moving so we wouldn't freeze our butts off.
