When I was in college in Madison, WI in 1978 or '79, I got a ticket for running a red light at the capitol on my Viscount. Anyone who knows the capitol building and the street around it knows what I'm talking about--it's basically a bunch of three-way intersections with no through traffic. Anyway, I had to pay $35 or some such, which seriously cut into my grocery budget for that week (wife and a baby). Freaking cops with nothing better to do, apparently. Oh, I also got a ticket for about the same amount around the same time for hitchhiking on the interstate just north of Madison. Freaking State Troopers with nothing better to do.
