This is why I dislike automatic transmissions in cars; I spend almost half of the year on snow and ice, and manuals give you so much more control over the speed of the car without the need for using the brakes.
There isn't an automatic on the planet that can't be downshifted manually. And for the record, I currently drive a manual (hopefully not for much longer, though).
I'm not sure that there's that much advantage in riding fixed on snow and ice, either. Some improvement in feel, sure, but I've not had a problem with that on my geared bikes in the snow, and being able to shift is pretty nice when it's snowy.
