If I know an intersection has a fair amount of right turning traffic and I am proceed straight through, I will position myself slightly left of the center in the crosswalk. That way, right turning traffic will can turn right without waiting and straight ahead traffic can not pass on your right.
Seem like every time I try to go the extra distance to accommodate motorists, I end up on the short end of the stick. The cross walk idea is good until you have a horde of crossing peds to contend with.
