If it is a serviceable cup/cone unit, check the races as usual and repack it into it's new home. I didn't realize octalink bottom brackets came this way, but here is a video documenting it.

If it is a cartridge unit, just see if you can turn the spindle smoothly. It may be a bit stiff if it hasn't seen a lot of miles and the seals on the cartridges haven't been worn in.

Even if it doesn't turn smoothly, I'm not sure if there is any harm to anything but the disposable bits, so you might be able to use it in the meanwhile.
