New Bars Day -- Soma Condorina [pics and mini-review]

These bars are fun!!

Got these new Soma Condorina bars today. Chrome plated Tange steel. 15 deg sweep. 5 degree downward bend (allows you to rotate your forearms down a touch, much more comfy that way). Cafe racer motorcycle inspired. Combined with a 105mm, 15deg stem, they make my Steamroller feel very sporty and aggressive.

I had Velo-Orange Milan bars (inverted, with a 135mm stem) on that bike before, and they definitely gave a much more relaxed position, given their greater sweep length and angle.

The Condorinas have a forward sweep before angling back about 15 degrees, so they put your hands about where they'd be if you used a plain old flat bar. They tuck your elbows in a bit more, given the increase in sweep over a standard flat bar.

The look? Very unique. Like it or hate it. I love it.

The quality? The welds could be smoother, but they look good. The chrome plating is very even and shiny with no pitting or discoloration. Good quality steel (Tange). Very stiff. Subtle logos.

The price? 60 bucks (direct from Soma) is a bit steep for steel bars, but if you shop around or your LBS has a Merry Sales account, they can order them for you with whatever bro-deal you've worked out with your shop.

Excuse the iPhone photography. Meh.
