Check out your used market in your area. Bike Coops, pawn shops, LBS that sell used, craigslist, garage sales, police auctions, etc., are all places you can find something.
For rides more than 5 miles I find I want different hand positions. Have you though about using trekking bars, or have you added bar ends?
There are also multiple ways to add racks to bike like using
p clamps.
Also a bike being unique is not always a good thing. First it attracts attention (bike thieves). Second, how easy is it to repair or get parts? Third, how easy is it to secure.
For example I had a
Trek Y-Foil. People commented on it, and I could get parts if I needed them. However I would never leave it unattended because it was difficult to lock up and always afraid of it being stolen. I eventually sold it because I was riding it less and less and using another bike.
