Not all C&Vers think alike. I have no problems with.people doing whatever they want to with their own bikes. I'm not into single speeds or fixed gears, but I do IGH conversions and I remove anything on the frame that's not needed, including derailer hangers.

That type of cable guide always seems to rust. You may find no rust anywhere else.
