I'm a Floridian, or was, and I hate Floridians. Sorry to those of you who this doesn't apply to but FL seems to attract a bigger share of morons, drunks, and jerks, usually all combined into one. I grew up in Key Largo, FL. One day while I was riding back on the bike path, which runs the length of Key Largo from mile marker 105 down to 89, I noticed there were a bunch of "Wrong Way" signs in a row. Later I realized why when a stupid drunk driver started driving on the wrong side of the road. I would have been dead if my friend didn't say, "Headlights coming at us." It took me a sec to register before swerving off the road to see the idiot pass by.
Then there's the infamous, Miami lane change.
Rule #1: Don't use your blinkers because if you do you'll never get a chance to pass. Rule #2: If you're on the far left lane and your exit is coming right up, don't use your blinkers (read Rule #1) and simply turn your wheels to the right and aim for the exit. It's the other drivers' responsibility to avoid you.
I always thought people were crazy riding their bike down US 1 in Key Largo. To be honest, even after I started cycling, I think it's still true (especially considering there is a bike path). There's absolutely no awareness when it comes to cyclists among FL drivers or any awareness in general.
