Flatballer, if you make upwards of $75k you could live pretty well in SoCal. You might not be able to buy a big house on a hill, but if you like it here you could get by.
I agree, and I think that's another thing I don't like about it. This is probably a function of my having grown up there, but it seems like most of the people I know who are still in San Diego (even if they went away for college) are those that haven't done much of anything with their lives thus far. It seems like a relatively easy place to land in when you're not really sure what you want to do.

Living in New York can be a huge pain in the ass, and the people who are here generally seem to WANT to be here. They're here to pursue something specific, and they put up with a lot in order to do so. More energy.
