I have a pair of '80's Avocet Touring shoes that I still wear often They actually fit, feel, and look alot like bowling shoes with a stiff sole implant. I also ride with an old set of Diadora with slotted cleats (rode 80 miles today on them). The cleats are worn and it makes it difficult to flip the pedal when getting in. In the past I have had Dettos and Addidas Merckx. Would love to find a set of size 45 new but that has been covered already.

I am not sure how well newer shoes do with slotted cleats. The buckles and straps may catch on the toeclip. But I have been thinking of giving that option a try. Other than that - just try on sets to get an idea what fits in width and shape. I can't wear Sidi for example, just too narrow.
Best of luck - Jim
