Most of the lower model Shimano calipers have a two position plastic clip. It can be flipped to push the spring in more towards the center or out towards the outside. Kind of a "higher" or "lower" spring tension/pre-load. You may have had it all this time but never knew it was there.

In the end it won't do much to change the brake use experience.
