I'm not sure I agree. I rode a 300K brevet in the Black Mountains of New Mexico last year. There was a lot of nighttime mountain descents. Black cows standing in the road are hard to see at night even with powerful lights.

On the other hand, gators on the road at night may not be an improvement. At least the cows don't see you as dinner when you are laying on the pavement stunned. ;D
