Are you familiar with a section of the route around Frankfort, that has a 1/2 mile 12% grade? If it's on your maps can we PM? Wife and I are a bit worried about it, and I'd like to scout it. My cousin is bringing people here to ride it with us, and they are somewhat older and concerned.
There are not any grades like that around Frankfort. On M22 just south of Frankfort there is a ~1 mile climb that averages 6-7% with a nice soulder. There is a very short (maybe a hundred yards) hill going North from Frankfort that is 15% or so. I'm not sure if the route heads up that hill or goes out to the main road. Don't worry about the hills around Frankfort, they aren't bad at all.
I'm not doing this ride, but the route from Manistee to Charlevoix is some great riding.
