While flat compared to everywhere else, I wouldn't get to worked up over the native animals. Your greatest threat here on a roadbike from a native animal is likely loss of control from hitting an Armadillo.

In regards to being attacked by a non native species, the migrating types are worse, most, but not all, have blue or gray hair, are large and powerful traveling up to 35 mph, have poor vision, low intelligence and flap violently for no reason. The all too common "Snowbird".

That's the real danger...
