I can't remember what bike I was riding, at the time, but I do recall returning home after finishing a night shift at the Paper Mill. On that ride, I pass through the Lakehead University campus, following some of the lovely bike trails that cut through the bush.

On this particular morning, about 6:30am, I booted it down a fairly steep, but short, incline the path follows, into a small gully and then coasted up to the top on the other side. For some reason, I always do it that way enjoying the unusual feeling of coasting up hill. Anyway...

As I crested the top, I saw a deer grazing, just to the side of the path. I allowed the bicycle to continue to coast towards the deer, which showed no alarm, what so ever.

By the time the deer moved off, still un-alarmed, I so close that I could smell it. Now that's pretty quite!

I'll have to tell you about the bear, one day:-(
