I didn't want to believe my digital scales back then, so I rushed it down to our metallurgical lab and indeed it weighed 19.7 lbs exactly. It's lugged and still has the original Panasonic seat (worn) and post along with Araya rims. It's a 23" frame. Maybe there were some model names that magically received frames from another assembly line??
My Hi- ten DX2000 was spec'd in the catalog at 25 lbs in '81. It's probably around that now with a rack added and lighter rims to compensate. And it's not even cr-mo. I think they just made good frames and had a good supplier. Apparently Cr-Mo doesn't have to be branded anything fancy to be decent and light! Or even Hi-Ten.

Don't y'all be callin' my double butted hi-ten bike gaspipe!

REELFISHIN'-- I'm diggin that 4000. my 2k is a 26" too. Only bike I've felt more comfortable on was a beat to heck Tange Lotus one of my students dug out of a dumpster. He's like 5'8 and won't sell it to me!
