Dude, I'm the maestro of cheap, and I'm still saying that if you can see the woven threads then the time to get a new tire has come.
If you don't have a lot of cash, you can probably pick up a cheapie for $10 at the LBS or get a Nashbar tire or even just dumpster-dive at the LBS.
