Only $55, which leaves you enough for shoes. I had these for several years and just got LOOKS. Honestly, I didn't really have a great reason to get the road specific pedals..I just wanted to see if they would make a huge difference. And you know what? They don't. Clipping in is harder and they feel the exact same. Buy a pair of stiffer mountain shoes. That way, you can switch to the three-hole design (LOOK, Shimano SPD-SL, Time). Mountain bike cleats are easy to walk in and plenty sufficient for a recreational rider.
I'm almost in the same boat. I've been using SPD and frankly they've been great. But I keep wondering if I'm missing something, maybe I just don't realize how much better it could be. I have stiff MTB shoes and I've never had feet pain or hot spots. But I'm considering pulling the trigger on road pedals and shoes just to see how much better it could be. Your insight is helpful.
