Last year I was sent two BB30 frames and neither was within spec. For example, the ID on the drive side varied by as much as 0.45mm and the ID on the non-drive side varied by as much as 0.37mm. The bearing fit was not a press fit and the bearings could be inserted by hand. On one frame one would actually fall out if the frame was turned upside down!
So I understand some manufacturers are having so many issues with this tolerance issue that they`re resorting to plastic sleeves!I guess we`re not quite there yet.
Amazing how `new and improved` often turns out to be `new and even more expensive`.
And -no - those weren`t dime store frames. They were custom made titanium. Think I`ll stick with square tapered axles and loose bearings myself for a while longer.
Thank you! Nothing like making things even more complicated that they already were. The whole plastic sleeve thing makes me want to toss, the only thing gained was in the cost of manufacture.
