I wonder if young Patrick has truly learned his lesson. Is he still driving? It seems that he should realize that he is prone to tragic lapses of focus and should refuse to put himself back into a position to kill again. If he continues to drive, he is literally driving home the message that not only is there no real punishment for killing with a car but that he can easily deal with the emotional issues.
