I understand that a voluntary recall simply means that that the company in question JUMPS on this before the CPSC acts on a mandatory recall. This saves them MORE litigation issues but does not totally protect them. I for one have never received any notice from Geoman, so I am not so sure if they have really complied on side of avoiding liability claims. I would guess that the CPSC website would already have a notice of this voluntary recall wouldn't they? I mean if not then this must be top secret which is not the idea of the CPSC.

It is always about money and liability, which ever is cheaper.
In NYC this month the NYFD bought fire proof gloves from a vendor which changed the production design after the order was placed. Several firefighters had burned the backs of their hands.
An independent testing company caught the design change and the city of NY went to get them replaced. The supplier decided to close shop 3 days later as the cost would bankrupt them.
Now what happens? The City sues and MAYBE gets something back after the company factory is sold off etc. If anything is leased or the building is a rental or mortgaged the city gets nothing.

Sometimes even the big boys lose out, will we??? Time will tell, but I've chalked it up to spilled milk. I will not cry over it.
