I have put butterfly handlebars on my Surly LHT with MTB style shifters. While the rear shifters work perfectly the front shifter does not.

I am having problems setting it up so it never rubs on the derailleur at all. It either rubs on the top gear or the bottom gear.

I have not changed the position of the derailleur.

I am also having problems with shifting pressure. I have to push very hard to move the front derailleur.

Any suggestions?
