I'm running a Campy NR fd on my 46/28 TA "subcompact", and it works just fine - cage is deep enough, shifts well, and clears the crank arm. Another option, probably cheaper but might be harder to find, is an old Huret front. They've got SUPER deep cages. I'd avoid the Jubilee fd, as they're built more for light weight than reliable shifting. But then, I've never used one. Was totally underwhelmed by the performance of the Jubilee rear I tried, FWIW.
