I had the same problem last March 2010. It made me not trust the new 6700 Ultegra chains. I found lesser evidence of this with DuraAce 7900 chains. I switched to DuraAce 7801s. Last time I posted about this, I caught a raft of shyte for cleaning habits, etc., so I shut up and just used the 7801s (and didn't change a thing about how I cleaned my chain when the time called for it):
