The "8E" in the serial number means the bike was manufactured in 1988 during the 9th or 10th week of the year, according to T-Mar's serial number theory. The fading paint scheme also was not on the 1987s I believe. Someone (Robbie? T-Mar?) correct me if I'm wrong!
Fade paint and that particular font did not come about until '88 and later. So, correct, it is not a '87.
