Anyone who knows anything about metal fabrication, i.e. welding, knows that there are many types of welding practices and many varieties within each practice. Coming from a welding inspectors position, as well as listening to highly skilled and experienced welders, welding is just not slapping 2 pieces of metal together and welding them. Any idiot welder can do that, and a lot do. You have to know what form of welding will be best, what type of rod to use with your metal and how you are going to weld it. To make welding an art-form, you need to make the weld stronger than the metal while making it look pretty. Ive seen a lot of pretty welds fail, especially in Stainless because the welder used the wrong type stainless rod for welding.
