Got it out of the way. I leaned my newley built bike against a light post, let go and it rolled about 4 inches against the post leaving a nice 4" scratch in the paint. It's why I put a hairband on the bars...to clamp the brake whenever I go to lean the bike.
For lightpost leaning, I usually just lean the rear tire against the post. As long as no one walks into your bike, it's typically pretty safe.
Doesn't work for those old-timey style ones with the wide base though.
