Lacing a wheel is not the hard part, truing and tensioning is.

As for hubs, I am extremely extremely content with my Novatec road front and my Formula back hub combo. Though, I would love my Formula rear if it was a fixed/fixed.

All-City New Sheriff hubs are very nice as well.
