With some well-placed klickfix accessories and a bit of ingenuity, 16" wheeled bikes can haul a surprising amount of stuff.

The handlebar clamp on my Curve SL is a good place to hang stuff like a plastic shopping bag, or my son's backpack. On rides I like to carry, in my pocket, a foldable/packable nylon backpack that I can easily unzip and hang from the handlebars should the need arise.
