Well, I don't know then!

WAG: The Campagnolo cables that come with the pre-crimped ferrules are also pre-lubricated with grease at the pre-crimped end, as the instructions alluded to. Therefore, it appears that putting the pre-crimped end into the Ergopower serves only to ensure that the grease is pushed in the correct direction, when the inner cable is installed into the Ergopower and threaded through the rest of the cable housing. So, it further appears that the reference to the pre-crimped ferrule is a red herring. The important bit is that there is a ferrule in the Ergopower.
