riding the tour

hi everyone,

i posted this in the road cycling forum (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ance-adventure) but thought it made sense to check here, too.

more details in the other thread, but the short version is i'm thinking about trying to ride along the tour de france route this summer and i have a few questions.

any thoughts on ways i might be able to transport gear (without spending too much) so i don't actually have to ride with it all? i think it would be more fun with an un-loaded bike.

anyone know if some of the roads they use would be closed to cyclists normally and, if so, how i could find a good alternate route for those parts?

any ideas on possible lodging options along the route?

any answers/comments/suggestions welcome. thanks!
