Chain noise can be a PITA and make you think that the system is not adjusted. Chain noise was never as bad as it seems to be today with some of the chains out there. SRAM chains 10spd are notorious for chain noise. Never really heard complaints about 6700. Would imagine it should not have too much noise. IIRC 6700 is possibly a unidirectional chain like the 7900? If so double check that you have it in the right orientation. Won't effect the performance so much but could help reduce chain noise.
Ha, no I can't feel peas under the mattress. I am usually more picky when I first put things together but once everything's dialed in right, I'm too busy riding the bike to bother with equipment. Blame it on the off-season and cabin fever

The CN6701 chain is directional and I've checked that it is in the right direction (logo facing outwards & hollowed out connecting links facing inwards). The chain does get plenty of complaints about durability so I'll definitely keep an eye out for any strange wear issues.
