The mid-atlantic beaches... from Newark DE south is rural, flat, beach-y, and not insanely far from Ohio. It's where I grew up riding. Head down from Route 9 at the C&D canal.

Alternately, head down route 213 down the Eastern Shore of MD. Nice riding.

Figure out transportation over the Chesapeake Bay bridge/tunnel and keep on riding south until it's time to head back... You could really get into North Carolina and back I think. It takes 1 fast paced long day to ride Delaware top to bottom. I did 2/3 of it in a day when I was 12...
