Do you remember how long it took you to get to that kind of speed, for instance how long until you could ride 18 (not in a paceline)?

As you can tell I'm a bit obsessed with speed
I've been riding since February of last year but I didn't really get into it until April of last year. The fastest I've averaged riding just 20 miles would be close to 19mph. It took me a few months of riding quite a bit per week to get my speed up. When I first started, 16mph was the holy grail and now 17 to 18mph seems to be my sweet spot. I also started working on speed intervals and my cadence.

Group rides do help too. You can get in some nice speed training with the right group.

As they say, just keep riding. You'll get faster. Also dropping weight seems to have helped too. I was 285lbs when I got my bike and now I'm 216.
