No. You could use a Sturmey-Archer dual paddle (push-push) shifter, one of a couple different twist shifters, one of a couple different thumb shifters, Sturmey's available bar-end shifter (that also fits on braze-on downtube mounts), or one of a couple of chopper "stick shift" style levers.

You mean to tell me I can get modern levers that take normal cables that are set up for the correct pull for old S-A AWs? I had NO idea!
