The Sturmey-Archer AW three-speed hub is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and is still very much in production. To be sure the hub has picked up various modifications and changes over the years (the most significant being the 1984/2001 NIG), but yes, the new shifters will shift the old hubs, and vice-versa.
