I joined in January 2009, so it didn't exist before then.

Seriously, I had had enough of usenet. This is nicer.

I didn't poke my head into C&V for a long time. I figured it would be a lot of arguments about esoteric stuff that didn't matter. That was a shame. Now I come here every day and don't visit any other section as often.

I still like the mechanics forum. There are some fantastic threads there. The trouble is that there are some super-boring threads there, too. I want to learn, not help with common problems whose solutions are well documented and repeated a gajillion times.
