My back tire had a bit of a thump on the rim when braking last night which had me a bit concerned (since the wheelset has only 500 miles on it). When I got home, put my bike on the stand and spun the wheel to reveal that the problem was a broken spoke. That was the last thing I wanted to tackle but as I looked at it more I realized that the high flange hub combined with the single speed freewheel meant that I could likely change the spoke with the wheel still on the bike - and that I did. Didn't even have to deflate the tire. That was the fastest and easiest spoke repair ever. Yet another reason to be happy about my single speed.

In any case, I was very happy to commute this morning with a smooth riding bike. Even oiled the chain to get the squeaks out. Great ride. Nice and dry with the -8C temps (yesterday was raining).
